THANK GOD FOR THE MAGNA CARTA OF WOMEN

If you are a single mom and a teacher in the Philippines, your career is always on the line regardless of how good you are as an educator and your credentials speak highly of you... Didn't matter if your students adored you and still have respect for you.. Administration will still think less of you, immoral and unqualified to teach is what they will say--- Well, I have had my share of such discrimination from a previous experience. All I ever wanted was a good school for my daughter to study so I opted to teach there in the hope that I could give her the right foundation at a lesser cost, since I am her sole provider. Being a single mom has its downturns, and that school turned me down when they learned that I am a single mom. Although they gave me a chance but the condition was that I marry Lili's dad before December ends so I could start January.. Impossible and humiliating because Lili's dad is not affected nor concerned about his daughter's welfare and future... Now I am employed at a government school and I blog. I could barely hit my targets financially but I am happy to say that I am meeting them when necessary. Yes I am getting much but I am also spending or should I say paying so much bills for Lili's sake... I am not complaining.. I love my daughter and I am committed to her future and happiness.

Anyway, today, my best friend Egeepie informed me that she read in the paper yesterday about RA 9710 or THE MAGNA CARTA OF WOMEN.. I searched for it online and the first thing I saw was that from Senator Pia Cayetano's website.. then the ones at Inquirer.net, where it has the positive news and the one about the opposing bishops... tsk..tsk..tsk..

Needless to say, I am rejoicing about this news... At least now my path is clearer and wider... It was not fair to begin with. I am not a bad person but I was the only one suffering the cost... And what high price to pay for my mistake...(My mistake was falling for the wrong person who seemed perfect in the four years before the pregnancy...) Why? Because I am a "woman", while the irresponsible "man" walks freely with a worry free life... I guess what I will work on now is for him to waive his rights. After all, he is not interested nor concerned of the child.. And I am no longer afraid to stand up because I know the law will back me up---

Thanks to all the authors and co-authors of this bill.. Finally a new chapter in the lives of women... And Madam Arroyo for signing it last Friday...
