Singing Bowls

You must be surprised at the same time astonished as to what singing bowls are all about. Well, for one thing, they are not your every day bowl that you use for serving soups or other tasty foodies. No sir! They are actually similar to gongs or bells that other religions use during prayer. In Buddhism, you will most likely encounter the singing bowls. My first encounter was in 1997, when I joined the Buddhist community in Cagayan de Oro City, namely, the Soka Gakkai International. I was astonished to hear the ringing, reverberating, healing sound as it was being used during the evening Gongyo... In fact, I was fascinated by it, that when I received my GoHonZon a few months after, I also bought all the necessary accessories to prayer; my butzudan, juzo beads and of course, the small singing bowl. Every time I chant Nam Myoho Renge Kyo repetitively in front of the GoHonZon, and end chanting with Gongyo, by the use of the singing bowl, I feel that the universe have already answered all my intentions, thus creating a circle of positivity and positive results abound. What ever problems or goals that I have, for as long as I chant, do Gongyo and use the singing bowl as I pray, everything is in place...

However, since I am the only Buddhist in the family, I preferred to go back to church with my family, but contrary to what is expected, I am still practicing the best practices in Buddhism, not to mention the positive outlook in life... Anyway, just to give you a hint further, I am also studying other religions and practices. I take the good from every lesson I learn for the peace and harmony of human kind... ahh.. I think that will have to go in another post...

So going back to the singing bowls, I read an article today and what actually drove me to write this post is the article I read at www.silverskyimports.com and it's about the importance of singing bowls in Tibetan Buddhism, at the same time, in healing . It was mentioned that the sound that Crystal Singing Bowls bring differ from that of the other kinds of singing bowls because it is made of quartz crystals. And as we all know, crystal is proven to be more effective than any other mineral. According to the article, a sound healer or the person who uses singing bowls for healing, may use a singing bowl to help on a guided meditation or an inspired visualization of healing.
