Hey guys, it's the start of the new school year, 2009-2010. The public school have started classes last Monday. And I could see that students are just as excited as their teachers to start the year. They were even wearing their uniforms already. Anyway, for those who are starting college next week, I hope you guys have already decided the career path to take. See, college is where choosing a career starts. If you are a freshmen, everything will seem vague yet, but as you go through it all, little by little you will hunger for that very vocation that you wish to get into. However, there are also those students who even in freshmen, have already known the life they want to lead vis a vis the career they will pursue. Good for them.
As for me, let me just share that I never really wanted to be a teacher. Not at first. Although I aspired for greatness in a noble setting, teaching was never an option. But all I could say is that, I was prepared to be a teacher. When I was in College, I enrolled in Psychology and since Psychology at Xavier University is General, we get to taste all of its branches, one of which is teaching. Choices of teaching college or preschool. However, I personally liked guidance and Counseling. In fact, I became a peer counselor because I thought it was my calling to be a Guidance counselor should I finish the course. And yes I finished the course, but I did not work as a Guidance Counselor, not immediately. I went through the Industrial setting, testing, teaching college, teaching preschool. It was working in Manila that I had my first taste of real teaching.. When I taught Conversational English to Japanese businessmen and their families.. The Japanese treated me with respect and an equal. They were very eager to learn and it gave me pleasure then to see how happy they were to learn new things. That's when I knew I was an effective teacher. When I came home, I then started my journey into the academe... Improved myself by getting a Masters Degree in Special Education, and here I am now.. A TEACHER... the vocation I have chosen, the path I want to take till I see my golden hair... lol... At this point, although I have not accomplished much, compared to the great teachers that I idolize, still I consider myself to be successful. I am a living vehicle for change, that I know... And it makes me happy to see that some of my students a few years back are already successful in their fields of endeavor.. So, find yourself a good vehicle for success.
