IIE LESSON PLAN CONTEST

Get a chance to win a laptop computer!

Simply write a lesson plan using the Inquirer as reference!


Learning, the Philippine Daily Inquirer’s section dedicated to education, is inviting teachers all over the country to prepare a lesson plan based on the contents of the Inquirer as part of its mission to promote literacy and develop young people into life-long readers.

The IIE Lesson Plan Contest is designed to encourage and reward the creation of instructional guides in a variety of content areas that will build awareness and appreciation of newspapers.

Mechanics:

1. This contest is open to all active grade school and high school teachers, whether public or private, in the Philippines.

2. The teacher must prepare an original, unpublished, clear and concise lesson plan using the contents of the Inquirer. The lesson plan must be classroom-tested, and preferably adaptable for grades 4-7 and high school years 1 to 4. It should come with an activity sheet for students and, where applicable, must include extension activities.

Submission may also be emailed to lessonplan@inquirer.com.ph. Where appropriate, the consent of the school should be obtained. A certification from the school administration would be sufficient.

5. The IIE Lesson Plan of the Month winner will be selected from the eligible entries each month for six months during the promo period starting on June 15, 2008 until December 15, 2008. The odds of winning in the monthly contests depend on the number of eligible entries received. The winner for the month of July will be chosen from the entries received between June 16 and July 15, 2008, and so on (see Schedule).

6. The winning IIE lesson plan for the month will be published in the Learning section (see schedule).

7. Only one lesson plan entry per teacher per month is allowed. A teacher may win only once for the duration of the contest.

8. All employees of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, its advertising agencies and their relatives up to second degree of consanguinity or affinities are not allowed to participate in the promo.

9. Lesson plans will be judged for suitability and relevance, accuracy of information, degree of actively engaging and stimulating students, organization, evaluation measures and to what degree they incorporate the use of a newspaper as a learning tool.

10. The IIE Lesson Plan winner for the month will be awarded a laptop computer. A total of six laptop computers will be awarded for the duration of the contest. No cash equivalent or alternative prize will be awarded. Taxes will be paid by the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

11. All entries and winning lesson plans become a property of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, which reserves the right to use them without any liability.

12. All winners will be notified by registered mail and telephone.

13. Winners must each present at least 2 valid IDs with photo (school, SSS, etc.) when they claim the prize at any of the following Philippine Daily Inquirer Offices:

14. All prizes not claimed within 60 days from receipt of notification will be forfeited in favor of the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

15. The winners shall agree to have their names and photos published in the Inquirer and all its allied media, or announced in any mode or manner of advertisement as the Philippine Daily Inquirer may deem appropriate.

16. In case of dispute, the Philippine Daily Inquirer’s decision shall be final.
