The Choice that Puzzled Me

If a kid with no shoes or slippers does not choose a pair of shoes, when given a chance to own one, then there must be something wrong with the shoes. Or maybe she prefers the bag for some important reason which we do not really know..
I found some bags at home that are no longer used, so I brought them to the outreach of our group. Since there are just a few of them, we gave them out as prizes for games.
One winner after another, they all looked excited and happy with the bags.. The kid below had been wearing the bag like she does not want to take it off...
But this kid below, puzzled me.. The last bag seemed to be an uninteresting bag for kids. A grown up may be interested with it more. So since we have a pair of shoes, Lili's no longer fitting shoes, I asked her to choose between the shoes and the bag.
We were surprised when she chose the bag instead of the shoes. Of course, the one who got the shoes was so happy with them..

CDO Bloggers Inc Outreach and Feeding Program: Cadayunan Primary School

How far would you go to help? Previously I posted about the Cadayunan Primary School: CDO Bloggers Outreach and Feeding Program and well, we finally went to Besigan yesterday. It was quite a rough journey just to get there, and to leave the place as well. It was a bumpy ride, then it rained when we arrived..

But despite the difficult travel, we arrived safely at the place. But that is not all there is to the already long journey. Below is a photo taken as soon as we came down the truck, inside the waiting shed, as we were getting organized for the long walk..

It would have been okay if it didn't rain, but it did, and somehow, the rain happened for a reason. It showed us the worst scenario for the school we are helping. It showed us that the blackboard literally becomes wet, thus classes will have to be suspended for a time or so, and that, kids with no shoes or slippers have to walk the muddy path just to get there. Quite sad, and frustrating.

There are actually two ways to go up the peak.. One is to go around the path, passing through a small pond where the people in the area have Tilapia and other fishes for their own consumption, or the path directly going up the peak-- a long steep muddy staircase.
But that's just the getting there part... When we finally met the kids, and interacted with them, and played games with them in between gift giving and feeding them, that's when we knew that our journey was worth it. Paint a smile on a child's face, that's priceless..

Inspire them to grow and learn, that's worth every bumpy road and getting dirty on our way there..

I sure would like to go back there and bring them more help..

With a ceiling that has too many holes that literally leaks into the room, a wet blackboard, and so much more to improve..
We shall continue to accept help for Cadayunan Primary School as we are going back there. We hope to help improve their school environment, as well as provide the kids slippers and many others. Please email us at cdobloggersinc@gmail.com if you wish to help or take part of this outreach. And to our fellow bloggers and netizens we also accept donations through paypal (francis.siason@gmail.com). Your $3 to $5 will surely go a long way.

Gift Ideas for the Inspiring Chef in Your Life

When you've got someone in your life who loves to cook, give them some wonderfully inspiring gifts to make sure that they love to cook for you! With the holiday season rolling around, there are some wonderful choices available for the chef in your life.

Spice Sample Packs
Head to your local spice shop or online specialty shop to purchase some spices for your chef. Bring some variety to your chef’s repertoire by throwing fun spices like sumac, real Hungarian paprika or pink peppercorns at him. For example, if your chef loves Asian food, you can’t go wrong with powdered lemongrass, anise and five spice.

Apron
Every chef knows that no matter how neat you are, kitchens are messy places. Give your chef an apron that keeps her covered from the sauce splatters and the flour spills. While you can get plenty of cheap aprons at department stores, check out culinary shops for aprons that have maximum coverage and which are extremely sturdy as well.

Knife-Sharpening Certificate
Whether meat or veggies, your chef does plenty of cutting, and a dull knife just won’t do. Good knives are expensive, and many chefs are particular about the knives that they use anyway. Hand him a knife-sharpening gift certificate to make sure that his knives are up to any culinary challenge. Knife-sharpeners may operate out of sewing supply stores or they may have stands at farmer’s markets or upper-end grocery stores.

Marble Rolling Pin
When your chef wants to try his hand at pastry, make sure that he has a marble rolling pin at her disposal. A marble rolling pin produces a smooth texture to pastry and the coolness of the stone prevents the dough from becoming overworked. The marble rolling pin also has more weight to it than a wooden rolling pin, allowing the chef to flatten the dough with less work. Marble rolling pins are available at any culinary supply store.

Butter Bell
Plenty of chefs like to keep their butter at room temperature and on the counter, but a cheap butter dish distracts from the look of an attractive counter top. A butter bell holds the butter packed in a bell-shaped container which is then lowered into a container of cold water. This keeps the butter chilled but at room temperature. This item is not common at stores, but it can be ordered online.

Think about how your chef cooks and what his needs are. The best gift for your chef is one that is suited to his needs and to his ambitions for his kitchen.

It Is Important

Now that online tasks and gigs are my source of income in this online business that we do, the only office equipment that is inseparable to me is the computer. Whether it's a laptop or a desk top, it is what I would use everyday. And if someone challenges me to exchange all others or give up my computer for something, then I won't be giving up my computer. I can live without the rest, but not without the computer-- redundant, but that is the truth!

Why should I give up what is important? Unless it is a matter of life and death, then only then will I give it up to save a life.

Cadayunan Primary School: CDO Bloggers Outreach Project

Our group, Cagayan de Oro Bloggers (CDOBloggers), will have an outreach and feeding program to a newly opened public primary school in Besigan, which is 52 kilometers away from the city proper and most of the people in the area are farmers with no regular transportation except dump trucks provided by the city government to help the people transport their farm products.

Before Cadayunan Primary School was approved last March 2011, the students had to walk 12 kilometers everyday, to and from the nearest school and this resulted to in-attendance. Most of them skipping school and eventually stopping before the school year would end. Cadayunan Primary School allows residents of Besigan to have access to primary education. Currently the school has 60-80 primary pupils and 2 teachers. But since they have just started operating in July of this year, the school is in dire need of learning materials for the pupils as well as teaching materials for the teacher to effectively guide and teach these eager kids. Each of the members of Cagayan de Oro Bloggers have already committed to help through cash and in-kind donations. We are looking into donating books and other materials that may be beneficial to the learning process of the pupils. Surely all the contributions will go a long way. This would be a wonderful early Christmas gift for them too.

CDObloggers‘ objective is to donate books and other supplementary learning materials and conduct a feeding activity there on December 2, 2011. CDOBloggers members has pledged a Php 300.00 contribution each which would be for the books and materials (Php250) and Php 50 for the feeding activity.

We would like to appeal to every kindhearted Kagay-anon, or anyone for that matter, for any support you can contribute. Please email us at cdobloggersinc@gmail.com if you wish to help or take part of this outreach. And to our fellow bloggers and netizens we also accept donations through paypal (francis.siason@gmail.com). Your $3 to $5 will surely go a long way. The last time we did a project like this (involving money donations through paypal or cash) was way back January 2009 when majority area of CDO was heavily flooded due to over spilling of water to major rivers in the city. We also made a post about the project (The $3 Campaign for the Flash Flood Victims).

You could also opt to donate in kind school materials like books, notebooks, writing and coloring materials, etc. As well as food and drinks for the feeding program. Deadline of contributions is on November 30, 2011.

Another Breather..

One of the things I plan to do this December is to travel somewhere where I have not yet been to. My aunt and her family are going to Leyte, my grandma's place of birth, and we sure would like to join them at this invitation. Traveling allows me to think and unwind. It will also allow me to relax. Although I sometimes get relaxation by playing online games and bingo from online bingo sites, still I find that traveling at another place is a good excuse to stand up and walk away from my online life, temporarily. But the, with my laptop with me, who needs that excuse, hahaha.. I can work and play at the same time, anywhere, anytime. That's perhaps the beauty of this online life.

An old friend of mine buzzed me the other night, at Facebook, and asked me where I am in the world now. I wonder why she thought I have left the country. True, I have traveled, but it was a temporary thing. I love traveling. She also asked me where I am connected and I told her I work online. And guess what... She got interested as well. She must have taken some interest when I mentioned that with online work, you can be anywhere and still get to do your job. Like when I was in Singapore, I did the shopping, touring and food sampling in the morning or evenings when I am not busy doing my online tasks. It was amazing because I have covered quite a lot and I have enjoyed such breather. I am looking forward to the next one. Ahh, I am hoping that the next vacation will be another one that I shall not forget.. A nationwide tour is nice, as I know we have lots of beautiful places here, but international trips are welcome too. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Weight Loss Strategies that are Healthy and Effective

A lot of people are either tired or frustrated having to try different weight loss programs only to realize that it doesn’t work. With a waste of time, effort and money, frustration starts to kick in. Now that more and more individuals are paying close attention to their health, one could easily notice the sudden increase of diet plans and work out routines all claiming to provide their customers with the fastest and safest way to lose weight.

But how could you tell the real from the fake? The first thing that you should have is an understanding about the diet program. Keep in mind that there is no one program that will work for all types of weight issues. Sure it’s tempting to try the one that you saw on the television after their model lost a lot of weight in no time. But do no get easily fooled by these marketing campaigns. Still the best thing to do is to consult a physician first before trying a diet plan.

When starting a new program give your body some time to adjust. Do not expect to see dramatic results right away as your system would need to adjust first on the changes. Learn how to eat healthy. An effective weight loss plan involves both diet and exercise. Start by avoiding the unhealthy snacks and junk foods. Come up with a meal plan that will suit your schedule and lifestyle.

Always include fruits and vegetables on your meals. Starving yourself in order to lose weight is also a misconception that should be avoided. Going hungry will only force you to eat more on your next meal. So it is better to eat small portion at a regular time interval. Lastly, set your short term and long term goals in order to keep motivated.

Mangoes

I have grown up loving Mangoes and eating them ripe or unripe. Over the years, as new discoveries offer new ways of presenting Mangoes. From Mango juice to Mango candies to dried Mangoes for snacking..and on and on the list could go on. Naturally, sweet mangoes produce sweet products. And I swear, munching on crunchy sweet mangoes is nothing more than just a dream. Unless you find the right Mangoes. Guimaras mangoes are sweet, and so they are good for Mango Puree and all other sweet products. Green ones are good for green mango shake. Ahh.. and that mangoe in between, is just crunchy and sweet.. I once had some when I was still living in Cebu. Today, however, I saw some images of the african mango online, and I was totally floored because I was salivating. Hahaha..

Then I learned that such kind of Mangoes are sold and made into slimming tea and pills. Ha! I bet munching in African Mangoes can also make one trim down? I wonder..

Ukay Lingerie?

So everything is expensive these days. So many things account to that. First, you havehe price of oil, then the lack of budget due to lack of employment of underemployment. Ha! So many reasons, I suppose. And with the lack of budget arise a new trend in shopping, which caters to those who have less budget. The Ukay-ukay. These are actually relief goods that enter into Asia and has become a lucrative business. I have learned from friends here in the Philippines that not only dresses, bags and shoes can be found at the Ukay stands but also inexpensive lingerie, imagine that!

Sure I have seen bags, clothes, shoes but not lingerie! Something about that just gives me the creeps. I mean, lingerie of someone else... that's highly unimaginable. But because money sucks big time, well, people just buy them.

Now, if people just look for ways to earn, then maybe they can start buying from the department stores too. Don't get me wrong. I have a few Ukay items as well, but not lingerie! I would buy bags or some tops, but not lingerie. No matter how you wash it, considering you do it my way, it still wouldn't be clean enough to wear. Umm.. But this is just me..

Where Did You Watch the Pacquiao-Marquez 3?

Watching Manny Pacquiao's fights seem to be a happy thing for us Filipinos. We may not be there at the ringside which costs $1200 a seat, but still we manage to get the best seats for the LIVE telecast. Take for example this photo taken by Ronald Zapatos of the Pacquiao-Marquez 3 where people in Ozamiz watched it at the Ozamiz City Gymansium.
photo taken by Ronald Zapatos
Or this one here in Cagayan de Oro, with a buffet lunch at Hotel Del Rio. It was actually fully packed at their Sunset Terrace,Executive and Plazoleta Gay Function halls. What better way to watch than enjoy a sumptuous Filipino Buffet, right?

Photo from Hotel Del Rio Facebook page
Here's another one courtesy of a former Congressman.. The Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez 3 is truly that worth watching? That even people midst the heat, would go and watch---

Shared by a friend at Facebook
I am sure that like all previous fights of Manny Pacquiao, certain barangays have prepared for a free screening and that, some neighbors too would gladly share their pay per view with people in their community. And just like what I mentioned in my previous posts, some families have their get together at this time too, thus making it a Manny Pacquiao fight party, lol..

So where did you watch the Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez fight? And what do you think of the result?
Pacquiao threw 578 punches connecting with 176 while Marquez threw 436 connecting with only 138. Pacquiao threw 304 jabs connecting with 59 to Marquez's 182 connecting with only 38 . Pacquiao threw 274 power punches connecting with 117 while Marquez threw 254 connecting with only 100.

Being Subscribed..

Technologists & Technicians Jobs are in right now. I mean, that is what is always emailed to me by one of the companies I am subscribed in for new updates on jobs vacancies. I have been subscribed to the said site since when I was in college, and even until now, I get updates. I like it because I could use said information in so many ways to help friends, young and old, who are still seeking employment here and around the world. Sometimes too, I get excited and tempted to use said information for myself, especially when there grants and scholarships for higher learning.

Being subscribed is truly good. I suggest that you guys try it. Been getting deals and good news from email subscriptions.

Starting Young..

When my baby brother was born, we were all too excited to trim his eye lashes. Although it was quite scary at first, but we have managed to cut them three to four times during his sleep. And the result was quite good. When Lili was born, she was also subjected to the trimming and all. Both were asleep soundly while their lashes were trimmed. Vanity of vanities, lol.. I guess it works because judging from how their lashes look now, we wont have to look for the best eyelash growth products in the future.

In India, they also have rituals for vanity which were done during the stage of babyhood, which of course, the baby will enjoy when he or she has already grown up. Notice their really nice noses? My friend from India told me about that, and there is a specific period only that it can be done. When missed, it can no longer be done when the baby gets older.

Excited for MBS 5

Just five more days and we are off to Iligan City to join the Mindanao Bloggers Summit 5. I have yet to get that sony digital cameras my sister and I have been eyeing at the mall. But then, I have another brand in mind, so it makes it difficult for me to decide. But one thing is certain, I must get a new camera because mine has died a long time ago..
Anyway, I am excited to join the MBS 5 for two reasons. One, I have been away from Iligan for so long, I have missed a lot of the expansion and the wonderful sites that have improved over the years, and two, I will be with my sister and daughter, and daughter will have her first taste of Iligan by then. Growing up, my siblings and I would often visit Maria Cristina Falls and be amazed at its glory and wonder. Of course, it had been in the books what Maria Cristina Falls is for, but it is so different to be seeing it before your very eyes..

All Better Now!

Last week I had flu, and at the point of medical examinations, it was discovered that I had urine tract infection too. It was totally a crazy week with me on the bed most of the time as I was totally weak. The doctor gave me a prescription and some samples too. I was quite amazed because the sample packet came with product comparison chart for me to compare five different kinds of the medicine, including the generic one. Brand is all there is to it, the doctor says. But she gave me a better brand that is not to expensive. I'm on my 8th tablet, and I am feeling better. After my 10th day, I shall undergo urinalysis again.

I made sure I got my dose of traditional massage, which by the way, turned out to be a great thing, as I think, it was what had actually helped me feel better. Then I remembered that Sunday, prior to getting sick, I was under the rain with almost 20 kilos of groceries inside a box, which I carried from our gate to our pad doorway. Twenty kilos included a 10 Kilo rice, and some other food stuff.

So now, I thought, I am not super woman after all. Hehehe.. I got sick and it was the worst sickness ever. I am glad I am all better now!

Travelling Soon..

Ah, we are going to enjoy a ten day semestral break and we are going to Iligan for the Mindanao Bloggers Summit 5 before the month ends. I wish we could go to Ireland and have ourselves booked for ireland tours. But wishing for Ireland is right now, a plain dream. If we have all the money and all the time in the world, Ireland or Australia, or even Austria and Machu Pichu would be on our list for a short break. To go for australia tours would really be a breather. I wish to have a chance to travel machu picchu, or the rest of the globe. But maybe someday. For now, a Philippine tour is best. It's better to get familiar and be a tourist among the other cities. That way, when it's time to go out of the country, we can be proud to say that we know most of the beautiful attractions of our country. Anyway, after Iligan, we are going for a trip South and well, enjoy the rest of our short break thereat. My cousin has just delivered a baby yesterday, and we three are excited to see her new baby. We are also going to spend All Souls Day and All Saints' Day there. Of course, Halloween will be spent traveling..

Apple announces the death of Steve Jobs, Today, Blog PRs Dropped Dead Too

Today, there was a commotion at our blogger's groups in Facebook because apparently, ALL PRs or page ranks of all blogs have turned N/A. A major drop from PRs 4 or 5, 3 or 2 and even PR 1 have become N/A.. Even Pr 8 and Pr 10 have dropped to N/A. So I checked mine and found that in my blog network, I have only 7 remaining with PR. All the rest, N/A. Then I checked again, and all PRs gone.

So there were discussions of a glitch in the system, so too, that Google may be in mourning because apparently, the world has just lost Steve Jobs.

Could it be that his death has something to do with the sudden death of some of our blogs PRs? I wonder. I was doing a ghost writing stint for a fellow blogger and she told me to stop as somehow, all PRs dropped. In the blogging world. when one's PR drops, one will readily lose a contract.  Good thing I have finished with all my tasks yesterday so now I have nothing to lose. But, apparently, all future tasks are doomed if my PRs wont come back.

So far, the observation is that, there may be a glitch somewhere, and it may take days before this changes gets reversed. Maybe this is just one way for us to also mourn as Steve Jobs has passed on. For those who may not know him, Steven P. Jobs Apple is the chairman and former CEO who made personal computers, smartphones, tablets, and digital animation mass-market products. We owe him so much for his brilliance.  He passed away on October 5th, 2011 after a long struggle with pancreatic cancer, and he was just 56 years old. Younger than my dad.. And just some wild thought here, someone who never needed rv financing because of his overflowing moohlah from his genius. There's got to be someone after this icon.

To the Family of Steve Jobs, our sincere condolences.

Living On Medical Beds

In the six years that Lili had been alive, I could count four times that she was in a medical bed. Nothing serious really. But in the 35 years that I am alive, and have gone to a hospital I have worn diapers for adults once. That was when I gave birth to Lili. Hahaha.. I hope not to be using handicap scooters ever. Anyway, why this talk about medical beds, adult diapers and handicap scooters? Well, I have read about this lady who for fifty five years of her life, have spent them generally living in the hospital bed as she was sickly and needed care most her life. Yet she reached fifty five years. Amazing. I could not imagine myself to be in that position. I find that really difficult to live with, or live, if it is living at all. Surely, it would be very expensive and impractical. But then perhaps because they have the means so it is just okay for their family.

But if I were part of that household with a sick individual, I would suggest house medication and having doctors and nurses come from time to time. But then, perhaps because they didn't want to be bothered with that and somehow, getting medical help right at the hospital is most advantageous for them. But really, if they are a huge family like most Filipino households, then some members can take turns in caring for the sick. That, I guess, is what makes Filipino families unique in the world. We completely abandon duties and tasks just to care for sick family members. Or, okay, not all, but most will do that. Good for a grandma who has grandchildren who are all medically inclined that she will have her own nurses, doctors, nutritionists and all other medical hand.

Aamir Khan Movies

It started with Three Idiots. I was totally floored with the said movie because of how it was packaged, presented and with subtitles, I was able to really get into the core of what it wanted to express.. And I thought, it was just a movie that I can let go so easily. With my daughter liking Zoobi Doobi, we get to play it a lot. Then my cousin shared again another Aamir Khan movie, Taare Zameen Par (Every Child is Special), which Aamir Khan himself directed, a movie that actually came two years earlier than 3 Idiots which was released in 2009, and I got to watch in 2011. I could have watched Taare Zameen Par in 2007 because that was the year I took up my Diploma in Special education, followed by my Masters in SPED. But then, watching it in 2011 makes no difference at all. But somehow, it has fueled something that has perhaps died a bit.

Anyway, now that I have seen two great movies of Aamir Khan, I have begun to wonder what his other movies were, or what movies he is currently working at. Then I learned that he was actually a child actor even before. Two movies with him as a child star were, Yaadon Ki Baaraat in 1973 and Madhosh in 1974. I was not yet born in those years, and I wonder if there was ever a copy. Moving further, his career as a lead actor started with Holi in 1984 with Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Raj Zutshi, Ashutosh Gowarike. I do not even know these other actors or if I have seen them before.

Below are movies of Aamir Khan that I have yet to watch. I am sure they will be good too.

Thinking of a New Mattress

My mom had to go on an official travel while my father had his scheduled check up with his doctor, that entailed coming home late as the schedule was also late in the evening, so three days ago, my brother and niece stayed with us here at our new abode. So three kids and two adults somehow fit in our bed. hahaha, almost. I thought of getting a new foam mattress by foambymail so that in the future, should that happen again, all three kids can readily do their helicopter stunts while asleep. I know how frustrating it would be to constrict movement while we are sleeping. We somehow fit alright, but when each child started taking their cues and turns, then the element or surprise takes over for a drowsed tenant, hahaha. Well, I am sure you get the picture.

Anyway, I shall wait for discounts so I can get a great bargain..

Business for Extra Income

My cousin asked me last Saturday about business, and what good business options we have. She said that a teacher came by their bank for a loan and the teacher was also into business. The teacher said that business has helped their family so much, and not just her career as a teacher. Well, that is so true. These days, even if teachers' salaries have improved, still it is not enough to help the family financially. Some would still venture into business and take on loans in the process. True enough, business is a very good option to be financially free. But business alone may be difficult at first. That is why it is still a good idea to have both a regular job and a business to match.

If I were to go into business, I would choose that which I am inclined with. A business that entails "happy" efforts on my part, and not that which I will find dragging and boring. In the movie, 3 Idiots, it was emphasized that if we make our passion our profession, then we shall all be very happy. And that is so true. We become effective persons in our careers, whether it's rack card printing that we do, and we do it best because we love doing it, then we shall become successful in it. If a gardener is a happy gardener, then surely he will produce the best products that are surely to hit the market.

I keep telling my students that too. But they most often say that if their families will starve because of their passion, then never mind the passion. Success will eventually follow, that is what it means. But then, we can never really tell people what we think and then expect that they will follow. People have minds of their own. And FREEDOM too. So yeah, it is good to go into a business or two. But not all people will think it is so.

As to me and my cousin, well, we are still thinking of a good business for extra income..

Wigs..

So it's gonna be Halloween soon. A lot of people may be buying Remy hair extensions or wigs for sale to better assimilate their costume and character. I heard Remy hair extensions are nice ones. Perhaps Vampire Princesses would need them. Lili on the other hand, may not be participating in any costume party even if she has a costume ready. Not because she does not have a wig to match, but because there isn't really a venue for it. I wouldn't want her to get exposed at SM for the kiddie Halloween treat. Their school is not also game for Halloween costumes and Halloween parties. If ever there would be one, it would only be limited to food and such. Then it will be disorganized and kids will not really enjoy it. Although, that may just be an understatement. Anyway, I think, if the kids will have fun it whatever activity, it would surely be a great idea to implement it at school too. Oh, it's just me saying these things.. I have been inactive in most of my organizations so Lili's exposure now is somehow limited as well. But it's not really a big deal of a problem. At least I get to choose the kind of people my daughter deals with.. I would want her to be enjoying life as innocently as possible.. That is what's important..

Camille Pratts' Husband Died of Cancer..

If you are one of the many women who buy plus size dresses at Lim Ket Kai Mall, you will notice one of the boutiques there with her photos all over the place. That's Camille Pratts. And I was told that that is her boutique. Of course, I am not talking about the shop of Hilda Coronel.. It's a different shop.

Anyway, I read a really sad news on Yahoo when I opened my tools today. Camille's husband of two years, Anthony Linsangan, have lost his battle with nasopharyngeal cancer at around 8:45 in the morning today at the Makati Medical Center. He was just 32. OMG! He is younger than I am, and he's gone. I can't imagine how Camille and their child will be in the coming years. But I am sure, as time will heal the loss, they will be alright.

Well, we really can't tell when our time on earth will end. So sad, that news. I hope Camille will be able to bounce back in time. I like her as an actress then, so cute as a child star. I am sad of this fate, and I pray that she and their child will be okay..

As of reading the news, there are no news yet of the interment schedule..
