Meet & Greet Senator Chiz Escudero

Friday last week, we had our meet and greet with Senator Chiz Escudero.. we proceeded with lunch at the Kagay-anon Restaurant with the staff of Senator Chiz Escudero, as he left for Davao City immediately after we met him at CU.  We have yet to finalize the date of our volunteership for Habitat for Humanity, and hopefully by that time, Senator Chiz would be able to join us too.

It's Final

This morning, I thought of bringing Lili with me to Pinay Mommy Head Quarters for tonight's event. Well, it's not every day that she will be able to meet other kids, apart from those who she meets in school. But now, I have finalized that I won't be taking her as she is not yet done with all her assignments.

I am sure there will be another opportunity for her to bond with the other kids.. In the meantime, let me go ahead and take a break from the net..

Bye for now people.. I have an important task to do..

The Modern Craftsman

Most of the wood carvers that I’ve seen here in the Philippines are using the traditional methods in making functional or decorative household items. But modern technologies right now are able to emulate the same results what the traditional tools can manage to create whether it is just a simple or complicated design.
The cabinet door router bit set is one good example as a solution to your molding and edging requirements and needs. It has more or less the same results if you are going to compare it from the handmade finished products. And to some who are really skilled worker and who may have a lot of experience already, you may not be able to determine if it was made from traditional tools or modern machinery already. But nonetheless, it is still a matter of pride to the artist or carvers if the finished product that they have created is made by hand.

Meeting Tonight

Hello Monday! It's gonna be a hectic week. Tonight we are going to meet at Pinay Mommy headquarters to pack the loot we are to distribute on Saturday.  I am sure it's gonna be fun. Mommy Jessica will be there and it will be our first time to see each other in person.

Mommy Ruby has planned for us to take the kids with us but I am not sure if I will bring Lili tonight. I am afraid it will rain, plus she has to study for her lessons.

Oh well, I will cross the bridge when I get there..

Facebook Helps A Lot..

I wonder if my friend's friend have already sold all musical instruments that he is selling. I saw that it was posted on her wall and so I simply shared it in mine. An FB friend of mine inquired and I left the two talking. Glad something came up with the share. Another friend of mine is seeking help for his roland fantom g8, but he told me not to share it at Facebook. He said that I should just tell people but not post it Facebook. So I find it difficult to be telling so many people when they could just read about it on my wall.

I have been sharing information in FB and somehow I see that it does reap positive results. I guess I need to educate my friend a little bit more.

Hello Monday!

It feels like I have not had a good weekend. Or no weekend at all. Worked thirty seven hours, with less breaks. I guess you could say Online Boss is a tyrant, hahaha.. But really, I just had so much on my sleeve. I had classes Saturday afternoon, and I have committed to some events Friday. So that my tasks from last wee have backlogged.

Anyhow, Monday seems to be a little bit friendly. Hello Monday! Time for a cup of coffee.. hehehe

But above is what I want.. hahahaha

Wish..wish.. wish..

On days like this I sure wish that we have a pool here. We don't have to install raypak as it is not necessary, but I would love for the water to be cold instead, lol. A break that will be easily accomplished without leaving the confines of the home. Whew... I wish!

On another thought, I wish I have a clone. One who will finish all my tasks while the real me will go and enjoy a really nice massage. Crazy wishes ei? Anyway, I will have Alana come after I am done with all my tasks.

Cracked!

Words elude me. I have been doing my tasks for more than twenty hours, and I feel now I am lost for words or topic. Sure I have a topic to write in a 500 word task but my brain is now wanting to crack. Well, let's see, I am right now taking a break from my 27th article.. My head hurts. I am so sleepy yet I need to wake up today just as I do wake up every day for my obligations to my daughter, with no complaints of course as I do that with love. I want to go back to sleep now but I can not because I have to finish, otherwise, I wouldn't be able to submit my articles on time. I am not really complaining, it's just that sometimes, when all the world seems to crack me, I allow it. It's like having your brains printed on paper using thermal transfer printer. Oh how I wish I do not have to type them but rather, have them printed directly from the brain. Hahahaha..

Good morning everyone! Have you had your coffee yet?

Hmmmm

Yesterday, a fellow mommy blogger invited me and other mommy bloggers for her birthday treat at Big Flat Bread in Lim Ket Kai Mall. I was already very late as I forgot the time, but I had no choice but to take the jeepney since there was no taxi that passed by. It would have been faster and much more comfortable to combat the heat when in a rush on a taxi.

The Jeepney I rode was empty except for me and another passenger and the driver's assistant cum barker and cashier. Then I smelled the smoke coming from the driver himself as he was smoking while driving. I asked him politely to blow his smoke in another direction, but he simply ignored me. I transferred seats instead, but before I did, I took the photo above using my phone. I feel disappointed that in public transports, there is a No Smoking sign and there is a city ordinance that prohibits any driver or commuter to smoke, yet it is not being followed. Let alone, respected. Well, this is not the first actually. There are so many of them, inconsiderate, undisciplined fools who, not only act out their irresponsibility and destroy lives in the process, at the same time, being hard headed citizens with no regard for the law who proudly flaunt their stupidity by doing what they do.

The sad thing about these persons, they are the ones who complain a lot about the country being bad, the economy being bad, and the people around them reacting badly about their vices..

That's why, sometimes, I wouldn't really wonder why some people get shot in public.. it's either they have been bad or some bad people find them annoying..

Water

A Hindu teacher once taught his students the importance of water. Water to sustain life, and to heal people from diseases, if not prevent it. The student was confused at first, but believed his teacher when he said that drinking two glasses of water upon waking up help revitalize the senses as it helps activate internal organs. A glass of water taken thirty minutes before meal helps with digestion, and a glass of water before taking a bath lowers blood pressure. Now, if one is to avoid stroke and hearth attack, another glass of water will do the trick. And that's not included in the eight glasses a day water drinking protocol. If that is done religiously, no one will want to visit http://www.shoppharmacycounter.com/t-Adipex-Medicine.aspx anymore..

Excited?

My daughter is now trying to sleep for tomorrow is their first day of school. Unfortunately, she is not feeling comfortable for the sunburn on her back. We placed cooling powder and she's almost asleep now while I am still awake and in search of an offsite data protection. I still have some remaining tasks to finish before I call it a night, and I still have to sharpen their pencils, as I promised to do so. Waaah.. I am also excited for my daughter and baby brother. And tomorrow, I will need to look for some books that we were not able to buy yesterday. I am happy to report that I saved P 500 for the ten books I bought from United Bookstore, instead from the school.

A new school year, new teachers, new challenges, new expenses.. Am I excited? I guess you could say that.. All these challenges are mine to hurdle too.

Offline

Totally out of the web for a day or so.. I was offline for a day and a half. And somehow, I felt it was forever. My Internet provider-- Sun Cellular sucks mucho! And my back up, SmartBro sucks too. I almost didn't make it to deadline, but thanks to some GWs, I was able to submit my finished tasks. Spent the day at the beach, but unfortunately for me, my cellphone as well as my camera died on me. No pictures, no nothing. It seemed that the world fell.. Hahaha.. But of course, when I was able to finish everything now that I am back here in the apartment, I feel alive again.

I am now officially ONLINE.. and I am thinking of changing Internet providers as well as back ups..

Social Medicine

Social Media came and we embraced it. Used it and some can't even live on a daily basis without it. Social medicine is about to become the next big thing after social media, did you know that. As much as doctors want to take advantage of social apps like Facebook, LinkedIn, or Twitter, they arfe prevented from doing so because it  doesn't provide the level of security required by HIPAA, as well as verify their users. That means that anyone can pretend to be a doctor and misuse the system. However, a new app from the creators of Epocrates has now become the social medicine platform for physicians and healthcare workers. Doximity is a free app which has features  found in social networks, but with added layers of security and verification.  Doximity features perhaps the best database of physician profiles in the world which look more like doctor CV’s that show the doctor’s publications, clinical trials, board certifications, and much more. Here’s an example of Jeffrey Brinker, MD’s Doximity profile.

WOW..

I saw this really nice design of a child's room with every detail in place. I love the fact that there would not be a need for standsandmounts, as the bed is utilized for storage purposes, as well as its original purpose. If this is feasible in smaller spaces, I am sure I will be thinking of this design for one of the rooms here in the apartment. But then, I have also seen some disadvantages, considering that the place is only rented and not our own. Perhaps some alterations from this very design..

Rent A Book: Make A Difference

Have you heard about Operation Smile? From my short online research, I found out that this movement, Operation Smile, is actually an organization where children with cleft anomalies and deformities undergo a  life changing cleft lip surgeries. Said children are from families that could not otherwise afford the surgical process. This long term improvement in the children's quality of life are truly inspiring. Donations come from all over, and mostly from big companies and individuals who are known in the society. But who says that college students are not able to do that too?

CampusBookRentals.com is actually a partner of Operation Smile. For every book rented, a portion of the fees go to Operation Smile. So that college students who patronize textbook rentals, are also donating for the said cause. They have also aside $90,000 in textbook scholarships that had been distributed to students in communities just like ours, so that underprivileged kids will have books to use.

Here's a video of how textbook rentals work:

Here are some CampusBookRentals.com FAQ's too:

Now, I am even more excited to look for books like Sybil, and rent it. It's gonna be 40-90% cheaper than buying the book itself, plus I can highlight on some important facts in the book. I can enjoy a 30 day risk free return. Best of all, I get to donate to Operation Smile..

ColorKiddos Gives Hope to ColoRectal Kids in the Philippines

I am joining a contest! Lovingly, Mama! is holding a contest to increase awareness about kids born with anorectal defects.  Her niece was born with an imperforate anus. It is a birth defect without a known cause. Her sister-in-law Maricar has launched the movement/social enterprise called ColorKiddos in order to help children who are born with similar conditions and whose parents are incapable of financially supporting their kids through the three surgical procedures required, plus the many medical supplies and medicines needed until the child has fully recovered and  bowels fully working.

And since this is a contest, they are giving away prizes for three winners, $20 to one person and $5 each to two others, which will be sent through Paypal. All the contestants will have to do is help them disseminate information about ColorKiddos and its cause, including this contest. In this way, we are all helping underprivileged colorectal kids in the Philippines to gain international attention for this cause.

If you are interested to join, here is the contest link.

Just Some Minor Interruptions..

Are you a night owl? Are you a night worker by choice, or you just got used to it because you have no choice? Working at night have its advantages and disadvantages, both in the physical and psychological aspect. But if you ask me, I would rather work at night, when all the world is sleeping, and I am awake, because it is silent and I can concentrate, except with minor interruptions brought about by Facebook thread chats and many others. That's why when I need to get down and be serious with a task, I shut myself out and not open any social media account. But on days when I simply do lighter tasks, I work side by side with them, lol. Well, I am not employed in the government and I do not owe anyone for time, as I am NOT paid by the hour, so technically, doing so is just okay. Unlike those who work in the government, or even private institutions who in one way or another, cheat their employers with time by spending it on Facebook instead of working and finishing tasks that need immediate attention.

I like working at night, but ever since there are too many of us here at the apartment, I have learned to work with minimal lighting, or no light at all, except the one coming from the laptop monitor. Typing is really not a problem as I have already mastered the keys. But for my drinks, I make sure they are on spill kits so that I could not cause any damage or get electrocuted. Hahaha.. Seriously, it helps to be cautious.

No Longer a Good View

Yesterday we attended the wedding of my sister's best friend, where she is one of the maids-of-honor (there are two of them in this wedding, and 5 bride's maids) and Lili was one of the five flower girls too. We went to the Harbour Lights Hotel and Restaurant as early as four in the morning because the make-up staff has already arrived, and make up for the entourage has also started. When we left, we didn't really have breakfast, well I was not able to take anything, but the two members of the entourage had something warm that they didn't feel hunger while they were prepped and beautified. When the wedding coordinator arrived, all others inside the hotel room were sent out, and so I simply went to the hotel restaurant for coffee and perhaps enjoy the early morning view of the bay and the harbor. I have always enjoyed the beautiful view at this side of the hotel, whenever I have a chance to be there, but the last time I was visited was years ago. What I saw in this recent visit was no longer appealing. It is due to the current and still continuing construction of the new road that will connect to the Laguindingan Sea Port. The information supplied by the waiters there. Well, maybe for now that it is not finished yet, it looks like an eye-sore, but then again, maybe when it is done, it would look good again, though it blocks the view of the bay and the harbor.

Anyhow, I enjoyed my Filipino breakfast. My coffee was served first then fifteen minutes later, my meal of Beef Tapa, fried eggs, just the way I want it, a cup of garlic fried rice and a glass of ice cold Mango juice.

That's P 190 plus VAT is P 213.00 in total, though that's not what was written on the receipt. That's all inclusive of the coffee and everything brought to my table.. yum...

Yeah, we could no longer enjoy that beautiful view, in early mornings or evenings at this hotel, but maybe they will replace it with something..

Its green grassy lawn cum garden is still really nice to simply sit or while about. Most pictorials for wedding opps are done there though. Just like the pre-wedding pics the entire entourage did before heading towards the church.

Future In Beauty Schools

I saw this old beauty school somewhere in the city, and I wonder if they are producing graduates who can be likened to the products of any of the  Regency Cosmetology Schools in the United States. I heard that they have had good students in the past, who now own their own beauty shops and parlors in the city an even some place else. But of course, those who do not have the funds enroll in government programs like that of the Alternative Learning Systems, or at TESDA. But I wonder if said graduates can boast of high quality education from said schools/training.  Beauty schools need not be expensive, and if it's offered by the government, it should produce quality graduates such like the expensive ones with quality workmanship and service-wise, near perfect. In that manner, graduates will have jobs  and not defeat the purpose of their training..

Regency, which was founded more than 50 years ago in Minneapolis, have proven to the world that they are the leader in beauty education, because they have produced graduates who are sought after in all places in the United States. As a fast growing beauty school in the country, Regency has expanded from two Minnesota schools back in 2002 to what is now, 80 campuses across 19 states in America, and counting. This continued yearly growth every year, proves that the network of campuses and placement relationships, from salons to cruise ships and runways have also grown. Meaning, Regency graduates who are recognized and sought after throughout the United States, as I mentioned earlier do have a future in the industry they have chosen. For more information, visit www.regencybeauty.com. This blog post was based on information provided by Blogitive. School Supplies for Manobo Children

More than a month ago, I saw this segment of Report Card on GMA 7 about Philippine Education and the plight of teachers as well as the learners. They were all noteworthy of attention and support but this one about the Manobo children of Surigao del Sur breaks my heart the most.

Why? I am 50% Manobo from Agusan del Norte, born in Butuan City, raised and educated in private schools since Kindergarten in Cagayan de Oro City. I have been fortunate to have educated parents and grandparents who were able to assist me in the learning process alongside my teachers, and a life, though humble and challenging, far from theirs. We're not rich, but I had everything I need. I never experienced writing using charcoal and banana leaves. And that's just the point of this post. I was lucky enough, and these kids, until today, may still be using charcoal and banana leaves in their efforts to learn.

Since last month, after watching the said segment of Report Card, I have wanted to do something for them, but I do not know where to start. Yes, my organization, CDO Bloggers Inc. may have adopted Cadayunan Primary School in Besigan for our regular outreach and feeding, [and as a matter of fact, I have personally taken care of the loot bags for Cadayunan Primary School from sponsors to preparation, last December 2011,] but I wanna extend help for the Manobo Children in Surigao del Sur too. I may have given away my daughter's learning materials, bags, shoes and school stuff, but surely, there may be something we can do, though humble. I asked my mother about  helping them, since she works at the National Commission for Indigenous Peoples in Region 10, and she told me that we can actually get in touch with NCIP - Surigao del Sur, if we need to send help for these children. I am thinking of school supplies: pencils so they will learn to write using pencils, and papers, so they will learn to write on them.

So that is it, the start of my campaign for help: School Supplies for Manobo Children. If given the chance to go and visit them, I will surely do so.. My friends and I from CDO Bloggers Inc. have reached Besigan, the farthest point of Cagayan de Oro City, on a garbage truck that hauls peoples to and fro. I do not see anything wrong or difficult with going to Surigao del Sur for this.. But of course, when I get hold of the mailing address of the teacher, Teacher Jenalyn Trinidad, volunteer teacher from the Tribal Filipino Program, the one in the video above, then I will perhaps send my humble gifts for the kids through her.. I just hope the good person from GMA 7, who I asked help from, will be able to give me the said  details.

If you wish to help them too, do let me know. I will let you know the address when I have it. And I thank you in advance for your desire to help Manobo Children in their plight for Learning.

Microphones Galore

My father brought the dvd player he bought four months ago, back to the store for replacement as it is under warranty. The store didn't accept it, saying that it's against store policy. In other words, the 1-year warranty that the player has is not at all acceptable in their store. Had we known about that, we would't have bought said item from them. Now that my brother is in need of m-audio microphones, definitely, the store is not what we have in mind.

I am also thinking of buying a new microphone for our weekend karaoke sessions. See, my family loves to sing, and having only one microphone in session makes it less fun. We have loved singing in duets and even in groups, especially when the song calls us to the floor, and I mean literally. Talk about performance level, that's just how we do it. So that is why we need a good microphone to match the energy being released every time one sings.

We used to have lots of microphones, but after Sendong, we lost them all. Karaoke singing was part of the family's debriefing procedures. I think that was the reason why everything was smooth for everyone, even though things were rough. Our weekend Karaokes truly gives us an opportunity to have fun together as a family and we should have the right accessories like microphones and stuff.

Lili's Beads...

Lili has been busy making beads this summer. She has acquired the beads from my sister, and she has started making bracelets, necklaces and all other accessories for each of us in the family since the middle of April. All we bought were new strings and locks. We also bought some decorative beads, Pewter beads, and some nice artificial pearls and gems to add to her creations.

Although she is just a beginner, I love all of her creations. They may not be perfectly done, but somehow, that's what drives her to make more, so she can practice making better batches. It's a better pastime and a better alternative than all other bead-related activities that were suggested. I will show you her beads when she is confident enough to allow me to show to the world her creations.
